Trump says Ukraine asks US for millions of tons of coal

WASHINGTON, Jun 30 (PRIME) -- Ukraine has asked the U.S. to supply it millions of tonnes of coal as fast as possible, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday in a speech at the Department of Energy.

“Ukraine already tells us they need millions and millions of metric tons (of coal) right now and there are many other places that need it too,” Trump said.

“And we want to sell it to them and everyone else all over the globe who need it,” he added.

Previously, Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko said in an interview with three local television channels that Kiev plans to buy 2 million tonnes of coal from the U.S. State of Pennsylvania. Previously, Ukrainian authorities refused to buy coal from the Donetsk and Luhansk self-proclaimed republics and Russia.

On June 15, a representative of the Russian Energy Ministry told PRIME that Russia exported 4.25 million tonnes of coal to Ukraine in 2017 as of late May, while Deputy Energy Minister Anatoly Yanovsky said that the ministry expects coal exports to the country to reach about 10 million tonnes this year.
